You can regrow the same vegetable several times if you take a cutting. You can grow basil, cilantro or lettuce from their stems. You can also plant a pineapple, celery, or ginger in water to re-grow. Another herb you can regrow with cuttings are scallions. You should not overcrowd the plant.

Grab some celery and leeks from the fridge and go back to your garden next time you are in search of fresh greens.

Use a bucket for regrowing ginger. A cement bucket will work perfectly. Four inches of potting clay should be poured into the bucket. Add the sprouted ginger to the bucket. Water the bucket regularly until sprouts appear. When you see sprouts on ginger, it's time to re-grow the ginger. This is a great way to save money and have a fresh supply on hand. An old bucket is a great option if you don't know how to grow ginger.

Onions are another good vegetable to re-grow. Once you have cut off the tops, chop them up and place them in a glass with some water. You can then harvest the green portions of the plants once they have regrown. You can keep harvesting the green portions until production slows. It's easy. Once you have harvested all the green, you can then harvest the roots.

Lemongrass is another great herb that can be regrow. Although lemongrass can be difficult to find at the grocery store, it is easy to grow using lemongrass roots. Simply place the root end into a bowl and allow it to dry in the sun. Within one week, the root will have regrown and you'll soon be able harvest the stalks as well as the leaves. How To

Organic fertilizers to be used in the garden

Organic fertilizers are made of natural substances like manure, compost and fish emulsion. The term "organic" refers to using non-synthetic materials in their production. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers present risks to both the environment- and human health. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Moreover, many synthetic fertilizers pollute groundwater and surface waters due to runoff. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are many kinds of organic fertilizers.

* Manure - is made when livestock eat nitrogen (a plant food nutrient). It contains bacteria, enzymes, and other substances that break down the waste into simple compounds which can be easily absorbed by plants.

* Compost is a mixture of vegetable scraps and grass clippings, animal manure, and decaying leaves. It is rich for nitrogen, carbon, potassium and magnesium. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It has the ability to dissolve oils, fats and is very similar to soap. It has trace elements such as phosphorous, nitrogen and nitrate.

* Seaweed Extract - a concentrated solution of minerals extracted from kelp, red algae, brown algae, and green algae. It is rich in vitamins A, C and iodine as well as iron.

* Guano - Excreta from amphibians and seabirds. It contains carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as potassium, sodium and magnesium.

* Blood Meal is the meat and bones of animals that have been slaughtered. It is rich with protein, making it useful for feeding poultry or other animals. It also contains trace minerals like phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen.

To make organic fertilizer, combine equal parts of manure, compost, and/or fish emulsion. Mix well. You can substitute one with another if you don't have access to all three ingredients. For example, if you only have access to the fish emulsion, you can mix 1 part of fish emulsion with two parts of compost.

Apply the fertilizer to the soil by using a shovel and tiller. You should spread about one quarter cup of the fertilizer per square foot. You'll need to add fertilizer every two weeks until new growth appears.
